The local enterprise

Rooted in Muirkirk. Built around useful work.

muirmend brings together two things that belong together: keeping good materials and products in use, and creating worthwhile opportunities for people.

We recover value from selectively purchased auction stock, including abandoned, undelivered and uncollected parcels sold through authorised routes. Alongside that work, we're preparing a charity-shop electricals pilot with an agreed share of net proceeds returned to each source charity.

A local enterprise, not a temporary stop.

Muirkirk is our home base. We want this work to support the people and relationships around us, creating reasons to learn, contribute and build an income locally.

That commitment is to the community, not to one particular building. As our needs change, our aim is to secure suitable space here and keep the Muirkirk operation local. Growth elsewhere should add opportunity in other places, not take it away from the people who helped us begin.

muirmend and Good in Store.

muirmend is the local enterprise doing the work in Muirkirk. Good in Store is the name of our shopfront and the wider reuse-and-repair project.

For customers, Good in Store brings useful goods together in one place. For local participants and partners, muirmend is where the practical work, relationships and opportunities take shape. The wider possibilities for Good in Store are set out in The dream.

What we want people to experience.

Our purpose should be visible in the way we work, not only in the words beside the logo.

  • Fair value

Prices should make sense for the item's condition, completeness and the service included. We want everyday purchases to be genuinely useful and affordable, while allowing the enterprise to cover the work that makes them possible.

  • Worthwhile opportunities

People seeking experience should have a chance to develop skills, receive useful feedback and show what they have achieved. Practical, creative and organisational contributions all count.

  • Care with what remains

Our zero-waste goal guides the work. In practice, we aim to minimise waste and use the most responsible accessible route for material that can't be returned to use.

  • Lasting local benefit

Our aim is to put the value we create back into the enterprise's work, capabilities and local opportunities, building towards dependable paid employment.

The work starts with what is in front of us.

Our first auction stock is being prepared for sale. In tandem, we're developing a small charity-shop electricals pilot. Each route has its own stock arrangements and accounts, sharing the same preparation and selling operation.

The charity pilot can begin once its own collection, workspace, competent assessment and partner terms are in place. It doesn't depend on a parcel or retailer returns supply agreement.
